Scouts

Scouts  11 – 14 years

We take charge of expeditions, cook meals and learn to safely plan our own adventures. Scouts actively develop leadership and outdoor survival skills and learn how to teach these skills to others.

Explore the Unknown

Scouts focus on developing their confidence and learning how to work as part of a team. We learn essential outdoor safety skills as well as participate in a variety of physical and intellectual challenges. The programs are designed to target and develop each young person’s own special interests and hobbies. From bushwalks and camping expeditions to getting out on the water in a kayak, there is something for everyone. As a Scout, you get to choose what you want to do, and your Leaders are there to provide guidance and support.

Scouts is designed for young people aged 11 to 14 years old. It’s where kids take on bigger adventures, develop leadership skills, and build independence while having fun with friends.

New to Scouting – No Problem! The beauty of being in the Scouting movement is that you can start at any time between 5 and 25 years old, depending on which section you join. Scouts Australia is open to everyone, and you don’t have to go through every section—you can jump in at any stage!

What Do Scouts Do?

✅ Outdoor Adventures – Camping, hiking, abseiling, canoeing, survival skills.
✅ Leadership & Teamwork – Scouts take on leadership roles within their Patrols.

✅ STEM & Problem-Solving – Engineering challenges, science experiments, and hands-on projects.
✅ Community Service – Helping others through volunteering and environmental projects.
✅ Personal Development – Encouraging responsibility, resilience, and confidence.
✅ Badges & Achievements – Working towards the Australian Scout Award (the highest in this section).
✅Jamborees – Opportunities to participate in Jamborees both in Australia and other countries. Jamboree is generally a 10 day camp full of fun and adventure.

At Scouts, you’ll become a member of a Scout Patrol with approximately six other Scouts.  Your Patrol will work with other Patrols to form a larger Scout Unit.  Together you’ll make important decisions, set critical goals, and depend on each other to succeed.  Scouting is youth-led, adult-supported.  As a Scout, you get to choose what you want to do, and your Leaders are there to support and advise.

How Does It Work?
  • Scouts meet weekly in Units, which are divided into Patrols (small teams).
  • Activities are youth-led, with Scouts planning and leading many of their own adventures.
  • Scouts earn badges and awards as they develop skills and take on challenges.
  • They experience camping, expeditions, and survival scenarios to test their resilience.
Advancement to Venturer Scouts

Scouts transition to Venturer Scouts close to their fifteenth birthday (ages 15-17), where they take on even greater challenges, leadership roles, and personal development programs.

Joining Scouts (ages 11-14) is an incredible way for young people to develop essential life skills while having fun, making friends, and explore the outdoors.
