Cub Scouts

Cub Scouts  8 – 11 years

We love exploring and participate in camping, canoeing, navigation and day-hiking. If you enjoy games and learning new skills then you’ll love being a Cub Scout!.

Create the Path

Cub Scouts focus on exploring the outdoors, discovery and learning interesting things! You’ll get to go on camps and might attend a Cuboree camp with hundreds of other Cub Scouts! As well as learning things like how to use a compass, you’ll go on bushwalks, bike trips, and have the chance to do activities such as sailing, canoeing and abseiling. Making new friends and building social skills are very important for Cub Scouts. For some, belonging to Cub Scouts provides an opportunity to mix with a new group of people, developing their confidence and ability to make new friends. Cub Scout families are welcome to get involved too! There’s lots of opportunities for the whole family to make new friends and feel part of the Scouting community.

Cub Scouts is designed for kids aged 8 to 11 years old. Whether you are new to Scouting or have come up from Joey Scouts, Cub Scouts participate in activities that provide adventure, teamwork, and skill-building activities.

New to Scouting – No Problem! The beauty of being in the Scouting movement is that you can start at any time between 5 and 25 years old, depending on which section you join. Scouts Australia is open to everyone, and you don’t have to go through every section—you can jump in at any stage!

What Do Cub Scouts Do?
Cub Scouts participate in activities that help them develop confidence, leadership, teamwork, and outdoor skills. Some key activities include:
✅ Outdoor Adventures – Camping, bushwalking, canoeing, abseiling and survival skills.
✅ STEM & Problem-Solving – Fun science experiments, construction, and creative challenges.
✅ Community Service – Helping out in local projects, environmental care.
✅ Cultural & Personal Growth – Learning about different cultures, traditions, and personal development.
✅ Badges & Achievements – Working towards awards like the Grey Wolf Award (the highest Cub Scout achievement).
✅ Leadership & Teamwork – Learning how to lead and work together. Cub Scouts play an active role in their program by discussing activities they want to do with their Patrols and Unit Council. The options for activities that Cub Scouts can participate in is unlimited but are considered within the operating procedures within Scouts Queensland.

How Does It Work?

  • Cubs meet weekly in groups called Units, led by adult leaders.
  • The program is hands-on, adventurous, and fun.
  • Cubs work on personal challenges and badge achievements.
  • They are introduced to camping and overnight adventures with their Unit.

Advancement to Scouts
At around 11 years old, Cubs move up to the Scouts section (ages 11-14), where they take on bigger outdoor adventures, leadership roles, and more challenging survival skills.

Cub Scouts is a great way for kids to grow, learn, and have fun at the same time!
